With PATA Chapters worldwide being encouraged to lobby British Ambassadors and High Commissioners as part of the Association’s commitment to oppose further rises in the UK government’s Air Passenger Duty (APD) PATA members should now make every effort to pressure the UK government into thinking again about this punitive ‘tax on travel’. A further round of swingeing tax increases is planned for November 2010, making long-haul travel from the United Kingdom to many long-haul developing markets – such as those in the South Pacific – extremely expensive. It’s time to act.

Congratulations to PATA on this action! APD is so disproportionate that it's a real threat to jobs in the UK (for inward travel) to many local economies in other countries, because of reduced visitor numbers. The proposed increase in November 2010 must be cancelled. It's vital that all the overseas embassies and High Commissions know your views.
