Quake hurts Asia travel industry as Japan sees slump

The earthquakes in Japan and New Zealand have affected travel throughout Asia. The Pacific Asia Travel Association, which promotes the travel industry, says the number of international travellers visiting the region rose only slightly in the first quarter of the year while Japan saw a 13% slump in its visitors for the period. New Zealand and Australia also saw far fewer visitors compared to the same time last year.

Bill Calderwood is the acting CEO of the Pacific Asia Travel Association. He says he does expect the industry to recover soon.
