The flood situation in Pakistan has the travel-and-trade industry looking to set up a consortium. This will determine the amount of damage done to the tourism infrastructure before assessing the reconstruction activities required. The group would also look to establishing a fund for the jobless or whose businesses suffered a loss, as a consequence of the floods. An estimated 20,000 people lost their jobs due to the natural calamity.
According to a report in eTurboNews, the ministry of tourism, Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation, provincial tourism departments, the Pakistan Private Tour Operators Association as well as various hotels, have observed the need for a body to assess the tourism industry as it currently stands, in the aftermath of the floods.
