London’s VAAC issues radiation warning

London’s Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre (VAAC) has issued a warning over possible radioactive hazard from the Fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan.

The warning from VAAC, the world’s focal point for notifying the aviation industry of International Atomic Energy Agency warnings on the release of radioactive material, was issued at 2pm AEDT last Wednesday. The warning applies to 10-regions including airspace zones in Japan, Russia, China, the United States, and South Korea.

Most carriers are still continuing their flights to Tokyo with the exception of Lufthansa which has diverted flights from the Japanese capital to other airports in the country.
