The new bridge across the river Nile, in Jinia, Uganda, is expected to be ready by 2016. The start of construction has been pegged at 2012. The project is said to cost US$109-million and will be largely financed by the government of Japan, according to a report in eTurboNews.
The Uganda Ministry of Works and Transport stated that the new bridge would ease the flow of traffic across the Nile. It would be an import-export axis between Mombasa and the hinterland countries of Rwanda, Burundi, Eastern Congo, Southern Sudan, Western Tanzania and Uganda itself.
