Online travel now contributes 70% of all e-commerce activities globally, a trend that is dominating the Indian travel market. With increased internet access in India, as also the growth of the middle class and new forms of secure payment online, online travel bookings are burgeoning, according to a report by e-Travel Blackboard.
The report said that railway bookings are the most frequent online transaction, however, online travel agents are seeing increased traffic as well, especially when utilised to check fares and ticket availability.
