PATA Taskforce Assists in Macau Initiative

The Macau Government Tourist Office (MGTO) met with PATA experts last September 11-16 to discuss how to position Macau as a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure.

MGTO has requested PATA to establish a taskforce to provide expert opinions in determining the future tourism policies and plans required to achieve the positioning of Macau as a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure. The taskforce consists of seven appointed experts from the academic and consultancy fields covering fields of expertise ranging from aviation to destination management and branding. The members of the taskforce include Mentor Aviation Services Pty Ltd. Executive Director Andrew Drysdale; Business Events Sydney Former CEO Jon Hutchison; Belle Tourism International Consulting Ltd. CEO Alastair Morrison; Making Tourism Work Associates Director Susan Warren; EC3 Global CEO Stewart Moore; and Lindsay Turner of Victoria University. China Tourism Academy President Dai Bin is also part of the taskforce but was not able to join the group in their trip to Macau.

The PATA taskforce met with MGTO as well as several government and tourism industry entities, including Mr. Cheong U, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of Macau SAR Government (7th from left) and Joao Manuel Costa Antunes, Director, MGTO (4 from right). The group also toured the Macau World Heritage and new tourism developments, and visited Hengqin to learn more about the development plan in Zuhai.
