Abu Dhabi’s increase in hotel room capacity is leading to a decrease in room rates and occupancy levels. Rates have dropped by 23% compared to same time last year and occupancy has dwindled by 13%, according to a report by TourExpi.
These percentages suggest hard times for Abu Dhabi but the visitor numbers are actually on the rise. There is a 16% increase in the number of guests staying in the emirate’s 116-hotels and hotel apartments in July, versus the same period last year. July represents the ninth consecutive month of double-digit growth for Abu Dhabi, with international growth of 29% outpacing the domestic growth of four per cent.
