De Jong: Airports Must Embrace Customer
Service Too
PATA President and CEO
Mr Peter de Jong (pictured) will address an Airport Council International
(ACI) conference on the quality of service at airports, June 1-2. He will
remind delegates of some of the inconveniences travellers face as they
experience the process of checking in and boarding aircraft. Mr de Jong
said: "The elimination of these small irritants can be the difference
between an OK airport experience and a great one." He added: "An airport is
often our first and last impression of a destination and that carries a big
responsibility." The PATA chief will tell airport operators and related
services that if they want "a boarding pass to profitability and success"
they must join all travel and tourism stakeholders in embracing a commitment
to service excellence.
The ACI event will take place in Kuala Lumpur,
Malaysia, which will also play host to
PATA Travel Mart 2005.

Hong Kong Poly Launches China Tourism
Journal
The substantial growth in tourism activities to, from and within China (PRC)
has surpassed all possible forecasts. Because China is now one of the most
important international tourism markets, the Hong Kong Polytechnic
University School of Hotel & Tourism Management's new journal China
Tourism Research serves an important need, according to PATA
Director-Strategic Intelligence Centre Mr John Koldowski.
The inaugural edition of China Tourism Research
features eight articles covering a wide range of tourism aspects in China:
destination, service quality, human resources, tourist perceptions, tourism
satellite accounts, ecotourism, hotel Web sites, and urban tourism. The
journal's editorial and advisory committee members are all distinguished
Chinese and foreign scholars who have a serious interest in studying China.
The quarterly bilingual journal will appeal to everyone who seeks a greater
understanding of this significant part of the world.

Routes:
Aviation's 'Networking Hothouse'
The World Route Development Forum (Routes)
brings together the world's airlines, airports and suppliers to discuss and
plan new air services. This year, it expects more than 275 airlines and 500
airports. Routes Group Marketing Manager Ms Natasha Peck said: "It will be a
unique networking hothouse of 1,500 industry professionals."
Routes will take place September 25-27 at the Bella
Centre in Copenhagen, Denmark. Airlines and airports meet in formal,
pre-arranged meeting sessions, where they exchange market information and
discuss opportunities. Further meetings can be arranged at the event itself.
Tourism authorities, economic development agencies and aviation-related
suppliers also attend the event.
