TG and TAT Leaders to Address PATA Event on Monday

January 25, 2012, Bangkok: Over 100 senior travel industry executives are expected to debate the future direction of Thailand and the Mekong region’s tourism industry on Monday, January 30.  Thai Airways International, President, Dr Piyasvasti Amranand and Tourism Authority of Thailand, Governor, Suraphon Svestasreni, will address the Pacific Asia Travel Association’s Hub City Forum in Bangkok, January 30.

Dr Piyasvasti, who will first visit the World Economic Forum in Davos, will address the theme “2012: Navigating the Headwinds.” Subsequent speakers will also analyse the travel industry challenges facing Thailand and the Mekong region in light of the latest forecasts, capacity, regulatory, HR, perception and development issues. The implications of economic integration of ASEAN by 2015 will be a recurring theme throughout the event.

“All the speakers are aware that ASEAN economic cooperation ahead by 2015 will radically alter labour mobility and opportunities,” said PATA CEO Martin J Craigs.

Infrastructure needs, aviation links, skills training and next generation marketing challenges will also be addressed by senior executives from the Asian Development Bank, the Mekong Tourism Coordinating Office, the Lao National Institute of Tourism and Hospitality, Myanmar Tourism Board, Khiri Travel, Anantara Hotels, Resorts and Spas, and LT Project Management, among others.

Veteran Thailand based travel author Joe Cummings will moderate the event.

The PATA Hub City Forum will be held from 1200 to 1600 at The Landmark Bangkok. The event is THB700 for PATA, Thailand Chapter & Skal members, THB850 for non-members, and THB500 for students. The January 30 event in Bangkok is one of a series of PATA Hub City Forums that will be held in major cities around the world in 2012. Each forum will address strategic issues and challenges unique to the host destination. The inaugural PATA Hub City Forum was held in Hong Kong on December 12, 2011.
