PATA has taken the lead on many travel and tourism issues, not least sustainable tourism, as established at the PATA Annual General Meeting in Malaysia in 1972.

Today, PATA is at the epicentre of the fastest-growing tourism region in the world. We take our responsibility to protect the interests of all stakeholders in the travel and tourism industry, very seriously.

As a non-profit independent membership association, we understand the importance and impact the travel and tourism industry has on countries, communities and people. In addition, government ministers in Asia have now recognized it close links to trade and community development. The Association recognizes that the highly interconnected/interdependent Visitor Economy delivers cross-cultural understanding and poverty alleviation through cost-effective job creation. It is our job to help members large and small, public and private.

In 2012, the Global Travel Association Coalition was formally launched, with PATA as a founding member. Other members are the Airports Council International (ACI), Cruise Line International Association (CLIA)International Air Transport Association (IATA), International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Uniting Travel – formerly known as Global Travel Association Coalition (GTAC)World Economic Forum (WEF), and the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC). Among this informal pan-global alliance of 8, PATA has the unique distinction of being the only group headquartered in Asia Pacific.

During the same year, PATA launched the Annual Aligned Advocacy Dinner, bringing together top industry influencers, policy makers and thought leaders to discuss the challenges and issues facing the industry and celebrating the Visitor Economy’s increasing important contribution to the global economy and societal well being.

So whether you are an airline, NTO, tour operator or hotelier, if you think there are obstacles to growth, insufficient investment or training, structural blocks to creating a dynamic and responsible Visitor Economy in your country, region or sector, tell PATA. We will do our best to protect and build business for you and promote the balanced development of your industry sector.
