With continued growth and heightened development, tourism has become one of the fastest growing economic sectors in the world. The industry has inevitably evolved into a key driver for a nation’s socio-economic progress, becoming a major player in global commerce and representing an important income source for many developing countries.
World Tourism Day is celebrated on 27 September each year to foster awareness among the international community of the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economic value. As the official day set aside in the United Nations Calendar the celebration seeks to highlight tourism’s potential to contribute to reaching the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and addressing some of the most pressing challenges of today.
The theme for World Tourism Day 2019 is Tourism and Jobs: A better future for all, reflecting the significance of tourism as a major source of employment due to its labour-intensive nature and the multiplier effect on employment in related sectors.
In support of this conversation, we have created this video to spread awareness of the issues and importance of job creation within the tourism industry.
Happy World Tourism Day 2019!
