Last week, we had a special guest visit the offices of PATA HQ:
Mr. Surapon Pitucklimskul, or Khun Pon, is the General Manager of Accord Travel Service, a tour company from Thailand that specialises in quality guided experiences for an exclusive pre-qualified community of travellers.
Through his tour operator business, Khun Pon has enjoyed a long and productive relationship with PATA as a hosted buyer for our events. He kindly shared the story of his journey with PATA, which we’re more than happy to pass along here!
Since attending PATA Travel Mart 2011 in New Delhi, India, Khun Pon has been able to leverage face-to-face meeting opportunities to expand his network of trusted suppliers at different destinations where PATA’s events have been hosted.
Building upon his success with PATA events and India as a destination, he attended PATA’s Adventure Travel and Responsible Tourism Conference & Mart (ATRTCM) 2019 in Rishikesh in February to further cultivate his relationships with local suppliers.
He found the pre-matched business appointments very helpful for selecting the products and services that his clients would enjoy.
So what was special about PATA’s travel trade shows?
Being present at the host destination and being able to travel together with the sellers helped him establish a sense of place of the destination, as well as first-hand experience of the sellers’ credibility.
“Visiting the places will help you to understand the real experience. My advice is to just do it! If you don’t visit and experience it, you will only know what you see in pictures!”
– Surapon Pitucklimskul (Khun Pon), General Manager, Accord Travel Service
Khun Pon recommends other buyers to stay longer after the show and use the time as an opportunity for a familiarisation trip. He himself would stay for three additional days after the event to become familiar with attractions and accommodations offered by the sellers he had just met.
Khun Pon happily shared his adventures on social media and some of his clients became immediately interested in taking a trip of their own. Just a month after the conclusion of PATA’s ATRTCM 2019, he went back to Rishikesh with nine clients over six days, visiting attractions and staying at accommodations that he learned about from the event.
These trips have helped to fuel his interest in travelling to mountainous regions, particularly destinations near or within the Himalayas. It therefore made sense to carry forward his positive results by attending the Himalayan Travel Mart in Kathmandu, Nepal from June 7-9, 2019. After all, when your passion is in travel, all you can when it calls is to just keep travelling.
Below are some photos shared by Khun Pon of the clients he took to Rishikesh in March:
Next year’s PATA Adventure Travel Conference & Mart will be hosted in Sabah, Malaysia from Feb. 12-14, 2020.
