PATA Pakistan Chapter was founded in 1982 and very quickly built an impressive record of multifaceted services to member-stakeholders, winning also PATA’s Best Chapter Award in 1993. From mid 1980s to late 1990s and again from 2016 onwards, it has an impressive record of holding training events and interactive seminars on current issues. It initiated an impressive Chapter to Chapter excahnge programs. Presently it advocates a pragmatic return to a federal tourism administration and works for Responsible Tourism, undaunted by the Difficult Times facing it.
The world event, commonly referred to as ‘9/11’, caused immense damage to Pakistan’s tourism industries and trades. In this difficult situation facing its constituents, the Pakistan Chapter was able to keep its membership together and persisted with organizing several meet events to keep manifesting the tourism sector’s profile. With many international organizations advocating visits to Pakistan, including Backpackers Society and Forbe’s Magazine, things are looking up for international tourism in Pakistan
Chairman Akbar also enabled the Chapter to achieve world-wide recognition of the positive truth of Destination Pakistan when the Chapter hosted Ms. Cassandra De Pecol, Peace Ambassador for the International Institute of Peace Through Tourism and Skal International, who came as part of her epic venture to break a Guinness World Record. On her return from Pakistan she has spoken loud and clear and often about Destination Pakistan in its truth like; “Pakistan is the country I like the most, though the one I had feared the most to visit”. “Pakistanis are overwhelming and loving”
