Yaohui Dong, renowned the Great Wall expert
Chief editor of The Great Wall of China Journal, vice president of the Great Wall of China society, director of the Great Wall of China Protection Fund Management Committee.
On May 4, 1984, he with two of his friends, on foot, started his investigation of the Great Wall from the Shanhai pass. Over the mountains, through the Gobi Desert, braving the wind and dew, on September 24, 1985, they finally reached the end of the Great Wall – Jiayu pass after 508 days, which is the first time to complete the Great Wall on foot in history.
Ever since then, Mr. Dong Yaohui has been devoted himself to the research work of the Great Wall for more than 30 years, and has made a significant contribution to the protection, maintenance, publicity and development of the Great Wall.
He presided over China’s 12th Five Year Plan project The Great Wall of China Journal, which are 10 volumes 22 million words.
On June 28, 1998, US President Bill Clinton and on February 21, 2002 US President George W. Bush visited China. During their visit, Mr. Dong Yaohui was designated as a national Great Wall expert to accompany their visit to the Great Wall.
