EarthCheck scores hat trick after successful debut on world stage

BRISBANE, January 25, 2018 — Brisbane headquartered EarthCheck, scored a hat trick after winning silver at the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) Innovation Awards in Madrid on 18th January 2018 and two prestigious state awards; Premier of Queensland’s Export Award and the Queensland Tourism Industry Council Innovation in Tourism Award in 2017.

EarthCheck founder and CEO Stewart Moore said winning second prize at the esteemed UNWTO Awards was an honour as it recognised the leadership and vision of EarthCheck’s General Manager of Sustainability, Marco Sepulveda and a dedicated team of researchers, staff, technical partners and clients who whole-heartedly supported EarthCheck develop a global Building Planning and Design Standard (BPDS).

“The EarthCheck Design Standard that has been successfully applied in 14 countries contributes to the delivery of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and places sustainability at the heart of building and community design,” said Mr Moore.

“It provides a holistic framework to help protect destination values, drive responsible economic development and enhance the quality of life and wellbeing in local communities.”

The award-winning BPDS provides operators and architects with an integrated assessment tool and guidelines to help them achieve more energy efficient buildings and service infrastructure.

“The sustainability challenges of tomorrow demand a new set of professional design and project management skills. This includes identifying the right building performance indicators to align business outcomes with sustainability principles from planning, design and construction through to managing the operational life-cycle of a tourism asset.”
