Lunar New Year Campaigns at Thai Tourists’ Favorite Destinations in Japan: Harajuku/Omotesando (Tokyo), Kyoto, and Sapporo

Bangkok, January 21, 2016 – Visa has announced a campaign to be held between January and February 2016 for foreign tourists visiting Japan’s popular areas/cities – Harajuku/Omotesando (Tokyo), Kyoto, and Sapporo. The campaign aims to offer shopping and dining experiences with Visa cards in token of heart-warming welcome.

In Harajuku/Omotesando, this year as the forth year of the campaign, Visa will host “Tokyo Shopping Week 2016” from January 18 through February 21, 2016. A special scratchcard campaign where participants will have a chance to be one of 2,000 winners to receive 1,000 yen worth of cash vouchers.* If you pay with Visa, you can double the chance to win. The foreign tourists will also receive unique Japanese hospitality provided by “Street concierges,” who will be dressed in traditional Japanese kimonos and will be guiding around Harajuku/Omotesando in English or Chinese. Selected stores will be holding sales with discount from 10% to 90% and Harajuku-Omotesando-exclusive “Happy Bags” will also be available.

In Kyoto, Japan’s ancient capital, “KYOTO x Visa Campaign” will start on February 1 and will continue until February 29, 2016. During the campaign, if you spend more than 3,000 yen at duty free shops in Kyoto city or restaurants participating in “Kyoto Restaurant Winter Special” will have a chance to be one of 100 winners to receive traditional Kyoto souvenirs. “Kyoto Restaurant Winter Special” is a special event to be held during the same term which you can enjoy specially priced delicious Kyoto delicacies at about 180 restaurants.* Additionally, three of the restaurants participating in “Kyoto Restaurant Winter Special” will offer a complimentary aperitif for customers who show their Visa card to be used for the payment when ordering. Finally, Visa will host a campaign in Sapporo at the venue of the “Sapporo Snow Festival,” from February 5 through 11, 2016. During the campaign, customers who present a receipt for more than 2,000 yen paid with a Visa card will have a chance to be one of 35 winners to take home a handmade snowman made of natural Hokkaido snow.* Those who are not selected will also receive a hot drink to warm them up in the cold Sapporo winter.
