Tour Guide and Homestay Owner, Taphin, Sapa, Vietnam


Ms. May Pham is a tour guide and homestay owner in the small village of Taphin located in the Sapa Region of Northern Vietnam. She is from the Red Dao ethnic minority and as a small child, she would have been found working the rice paddies and corn fields, helping her mother, father and family. May Pham’s early career aspiration was to become a professional dancer and she received a scholarship at a dance school in Hoa Binh. Following, she returned to Sapa to begin practising to become a tour guide. 

Today, May Phan has a beautiful family with her husband and two children. Still living in Taphin, she is regularly found on the trekking routes of Sapa sharing her culture and home with international tourists. She has nearly a decade of experience guiding and presently has two successful homestays that she manages. She was a participant in the PATA Foundation funded CBT Vietnam Project and was critical in leading the group of Taphin women to Hanoi to meet with tour operators.
