The PATA Philippines Chapter’s Business Assembly (General Membership Meeting) took place a few days after the PATA Annual Summit in Guam. Newly elected PATA Chairman Andrew Jones, who had earlier scheduled his post-Summit trip to Manila, readily accepted the Chapter’s invitation to grace the occasion, and give his inspirational message to the members, making it his first official function after his election.

The Business Assembly’s theme was Education and Empowerment, and had two speakers who are leading celebrities in their respective fields of endeavor.   Joanne Rae Ramirez is the Editor-in-Chief and General Manager of People Asia magazine, the highest circulation glossy in the country. Also a Section Editor of a leading broadsheet, she is a consistent Quill Awardee for Excellence in Journalism. Ms. Ramirez talked about how her education has given her the opportunity to visit the most interesting destinations in the world.

Cory Quirino, host of her own television and radio programs, author, civic leader, beauty contest licensee, newspaper columnist, and wellness guru spoke about empowerment through wellness, and gave interesting tips on how to stay healthy.

Another highlight of the event was the induction for membership of the biggest number of applicants in the Chapter’s history—a total of 14, representing a good cross-section of the country’s tourism industry. Guests also enjoyed the Japanese lunch menu, chosen by the Head of Programs Committee Onelle Verzosa of Hotel Celeste, with musical entertainment in the background, dished out by member Jinkee Adriano Alivio of Sun and Moon Travel and Tours.

Head of Membership Committee, Simon Ang, reported on the total membership for the Chapter and enumerated the activities lined up for the rest of the year, while Legal Counsel Apolonio Anota of Sining at Kultura Foundation, did a membership preference survey. The fast-paced program was hosted by the tandem of Isabel Garcia of Henann Group of Hotels and Teody Espallardo, of Huma Island Resort & Spa.
