LONDON, June 6, 2019 – Pandox, the leading international hotel property company, is teaming up with Winnow to fight food waste. The group will soon implement our cutting-edge technology to reduce waste in three of its hotels in Germany and Belgium: Crowne Plaza Brussels, Radisson Blu Hotel Dortmund and The Hotel Brussels.
“We have started this collaboration together with Winnow, with the goal to reduce our food waste significantly in each of our three chosen pilot hotels that will have a direct impact in the P&L. Our target is also to create internal awareness about food waste in the daily operation that will lead to behavioral changes”, says Caroline Tivéus, Director of Sustainable Business at Pandox.
Food waste costs commercial kitchens between five and 15 per cent of all food purchased, with some kitchens wasting up to 20 per cent of all the food they buy. Food waste costs the hospitality industry alone around $100bn every year. Tackling food waste is a massive opportunity for the hotel industry as a whole. It can be a transformational step change. It makes economic, environmental, and moral sense.
Pandox was founded in 1995 and the company´s hotel property portfolio currently covers 144 hotels with approximately 32,000 hotel rooms in 15 countries. The hotels are all large and strategically located. Pandox works with a number of strong business partners such as hotel operators (e.g. Scandic, NH Hotels and Leonardo), brands (e.g. Hilton, Radisson Blue and Crowne Plaza) and independent brands (e.g. The Hotel Brussels and Hotel Berlin, Berlin).
Pandox’s vision is to be a world-leading hotel property company where sustainability forms a natural part of the business. And the company is well on its way. The group is continuously looking to adapt their operations to new sustainable methods as well as to modern technology, to ensure that the total environmental impact is reduced through lower usage of energy and water as well as through less waste.
All the three hotels where Winnow will be implemented are Green Key certified. The Green Key eco label is the leading standard for excellence in environmental responsibility and sustainable operation within the tourism industry. It represents a commitment by businesses that their hotels adhere to criteria set by the Foundation for Environmental Education.
