April 12th 2019 at 5 PM at 4 West 43rd Street, New York, NY 10036. New York PATA Chapter is proud to support this event and members, colleagues and friends in the travel industry and the art world are invited.
Mithila is an ancient cultural region of South Nepal and North India lying between the lower ranges of the Himalayas and the Ganges River.
Mithila Culture is said to have originated in Janakpurdham, capital of Ancient Mithila of Nepal. It is probably the only culture in South Asia which is a combination of Ancient Nepalese and Indian Cultures as Sita of Nepal and Ram of India were married.
However, Mithila Culture is said to be of Nepalese origin in Hinduism-epic Ramayana. Mithila is well known globally for its art. Mithila paintings are considered a collectible art form, with artists painting on canvases of rough handmade paper that is similar in texture to the mud hut walls. Not only are Mithila paintings now exhibited in galleries across the world, but more importantly the art has opened up a new industry for women in impoverished rural communities.
