PATA Travel Mart (PTM) is Asia Pacific’s international travel trade exhibition featuring unparalleled networking and contracting opportunities to help travel and tourism organisations access decision makers, meet new clients, expand their networks, establish new relationships and consolidate existing business partnerships.

The PATA Travel Mart 2019 in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan generated in total US$9.9 million including US$3.7 million as income to Kazakhstan. An initial stated investment by PATA and other sponsors of US$1,071,981 represents a Return on Investment of 1:3.4 (US$3.7 million / US$1,071,981). This is a significant economic impact well above the initial investment cost. The event created or sustained around 225 full time equivalent jobs. Note that these jobs may not directly relate to the activity of the PTM itself, but also arise as indirect and induced employment.

A two-hour drive from Chengdu, the capital of the southwestern China’s Sichuan province, the city of Leshan enjoys a long history, rich culture and lush, beautiful scenery.

In 2018, the city received over 57 million domestic and foreign tourists, an increase of 11.89% over the same period of last year (Source: Leshan Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism Bureau). While visitors are largely drawn to the world-renowned Mount Emei and Leshan Giant Buddha, Leshan boasts a diverse array of travel treasures to discover – both old and new.

Mount Emei and Leshan Giant Buddha
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Mount Emei and the Leshan Giant Buddha Scenic Areas features striking natural landscape of which human architecture has been integrated with skill and subtlety. It is also of great spiritual and cultural importance due to its role in the introduction of Buddhism into China, where the country’s first Buddhist temple was built in the 1st century AD.

‘Unique Mount Emei’ Show
Directed by Wang Chaoge – acclaimed as the most innovative director in China, this immersive experience combines performing arts, dance, light and other stage technologies to result in a mesmerising performance that showcase the lives of the locals and the history of Mount Emei. Alongside leading Chinese directors Zhang Yimou and FanYue, Wang Chaoge co-directed the opening and closing ceremonies of the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics.

Sanjiang Night Tour
Leshan’s new tourism highlight offers a night-time perspective of Mount Emei and the Giant Buddha via a 45-minute boat cruise to Snjiang (Three Rivers), where the Minjiang, Qingyi and Dadu rivers converge. A light-and-sound performance tells the story of the city’s culture and discovery of the sleeping Buddha.

Jiayang Steam Train
At just 70km away from the Leshan Giant Buddha, the Jiayang Steam Train is the world’s last and only narrow-gauge steam locomotive for transporting passengers. Reputed as the “living fossil of the 18th century industrial Revolution”, the train runs all year round, taking its passengers back in time through a scenic mountainous area.

Delegates can connect to Leshan via Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport, then land tranfer by car, bus or speed train within a two-hour (approximate) journey. Chengdu Airport is the fourth-busiest airport in China with non-stop passenger flights scheduled to 195 destinations in 37 countries and 135 domestic flights from Chengdu, as of December 2019
