SAN DIEGO, March 17, 2017 — On March 2nd and 3rd, the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) San Diego Chapter (SANPATA) provided an exceptional educational travel industry conference at the Bay Club Hotel & Marine, Shelter Island, California, USA.  The PATA Chapters (Americas) U featured informative and engaging sessions on Travel and Tourism to the Asia Pacific region with leading industry speakers, including Keynote Speaker, Mr. Andrew Jones, CHA, PATA Chairman, from the PATA Bangkok head office.

Mr. Jones stated, “It was indeed rewarding to meet with the PATA Chapter representatives and travel agents of North America at the PATA Chapters educational conference. The event was very well organised with many enriching presentations from the Asia Pacific suppliers. Events such as this provide an excellent opportunity for more engagement between PATA Chapters and PATA HQ in Bangkok, for the benefit of all members and the association.”

Florida-based PATA member WorldBrowser.com president, Douglas Shachnow, commented, “We were delighted to be a presenter at this learning event for travel agents.”

The Macao Government Tourist Office (MGTO) sponsored the Thursday luncheon, and presented a preview of PATA Travel Mart 2017 in Macao SAR from September 13-15, as delivered by their North America representative, Myriad Marketing.

A gala Cruise Night was presented by three members of the Carnival Corporation Family of cruise lines, Holland America Line, Princess Cruises and Carnival cruises, to a sold out gathering over 110 attendees.

The PATA San Diego Chapter has an excellent reputation within the travel industry for organising exceptional and consistent educational programs to the travel agency community.

“We are exceedingly pleased with the overwhelming success of our event,” stated Jill Powell, Executive Administrator of PATA San Diego and co-chair of the program, together with PATA Board Member, Jim Ferguson.

Major sponsor Emirates donated 2 tickets on Emirates (with space available upgrade to business class) to any of their US Gateways to Dubai and the Balinese-inspired Pantai Inn, rated #1 San Diego Hotel on TripAdvisor, donated a luxury two-night stay to the conference delegates in addition to supplying the colorful conference table centerpieces for the meeting rooms and lunch.

PATA Chapters U delegates received a Certificate of Merit Award for completing the course curriculum with Mrs. Asia from Indonesia assisting in the handing out of the certificates.  In addition, four special “Pillars Of PATA Americas Chapters” awards were handed out to PATA Chapter stalwards, Gloria Henderson (Hawaii), Klaus Billep (SoCal), Simonne Bassous (New York) and Jill Powell (San Diego).

“It was a most rewarding experience for both the attendees and event organisers and a true labour of love by the Chapter,” commented, Jim Ferguson, PATA San Diego and PATA Bangkok Board member.

Following the conference, travel agents then took in the annual consumer San Diego Travel and Adventure Show that weekend.  Travel enthusiasts had the opportunity to meet face to face with the SANPATA travel expert booth team and introduce them to the services of PATA.

PATA Chapters are established throughout the world to assist in the fulfilment of the objectives of the Association. They are local community organisations of travel industry professionals who join in a co-operative endeavour – within the framework of PATA – to develop travel and tourism to, from and within the Asia Pacific area. There are 40 PATA Chapters around the world that make valuable contributions to local travel industry communities.
