Meet Our New Interns!

We’ve had the pleasure to welcome new staff who joined us as Intern Associates and helped us through the second quarter of 2022. Get to know them and their experience at PATA!

Jane Kim - Youth Intern

Hi everyone! This is Jane from Korea (ROK). I’m now an intern in the Youth Department. As I study Hospitality and Tourism management, I always wanted to work in an international organization and interact with diverse nationalities. I believe PATA Youth is the best place to show  passion and knowledge towards the tourism industry.

Being a PATA Youth intern, I could build connections with future tourism leaders, learn how to plan an event, launch and manage PATA Youth Website. This also helped me to see a bigger picture of tourism by understanding various topics such as sustainable development, leadership, climate change and technology. All these invaluable experiences will definitely help me grow as a professional in the Post Covid tourism industry. Three months can be short but I’m so excited to work as a part of PATA.

Jenny Bae - Events Intern

Hi there, my name is Jeong In Bae, but you can also call me Jenny! I'm originally from Korea(ROK), and I spent my teenage years growing up in Cambodia. I'm currently studying Travel Industry Management at the University of Hawaii at Manoa with an emphasis on Tourism and Transportation waiting to graduate in the fall of this year.

I’ve always loved to travel, enjoyed meeting different people, and been passionate about learning new things. I’ve been dreaming of working at an international organization with a focus on tourism or culture such as the UNWTO (United Nations World Tourism Organization) or UNESCO. Therefore, I decided that starting an internship at PATA would give me a broader idea and spectrum of working globally and to understand diverse ways to communicate efficiently with people from various countries and cultures.

I’m very excited to learn more about the upcoming events at PATA during my internship period for the next few months. Unfortunately, this is a complete remote internship (Work From Home) due to the pandemic, but I really hope to visit the headquarters of PATA in Bangkok someday in the future! :)

Kate Kwan - SSR(Sustainability & Social Responsibility) Intern

Greetings! This is Kate from Macao. As a Macao native, I have always found the profound meaning of the UNESCO Historic Centre of Macao and the diverse cultures of Intangible Cultural Heritage items that have been my favorite legacy to explore their meanings and heritage values. Additionally, I have always found meaning and mission in cherishing the beauty of my precious hometown and other countries, and as well as the collective memories held within those constituting our diverse communities. It was due to this mission that I, following my four years of Tourism Business Management (BSc) study at the Macao Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM), decided to further my studies through the Architectural Conservation Program (MSc) at the University of Hong Kong (HKU). This academic journey broadened my perspectives on designing thematic local cultural tours, managing/interpreting both tangible and intangible cultural heritage sensitively, and making SDGs into real practices from a community-based angle. This has also strongly aided the development of my current research projects, which focus on the sustainable partnership between heritage and tourism.

As part of the SSR team, needless to say, this experience has brought me much joy. I do cherish every moment of working with the SSR team that is filled with warmth, thoughtful, intelligent, humble, enthusiastic folks; this opportunity is one that I appreciate enormously. It is upon these thoughts that I believe in contributing positively to the SSR team through my educational foundation, passion and determination.

飲勝! Vamos fazer um brinde! Cheers! 乾杯しましょう!

Steffanie Keith Z. Arciaga - Membership Intern

My name is Steffanie Keith Z. Arciaga, and I’m from the Philippines. I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies with a major in Tourism, and I am expected to graduate this year. Apart from my passion for travel, I've always wanted to support and provide help to people in whatever way I could. Though I consider myself shy and quiet, I make it a point to observe and learn at all times so that I am prepared to provide suggestions when they are requested.  My internship with PATA has allowed me to gain valuable experience despite the pandemic situation. I consider myself fortunate to have been granted the chance.

As an Intern on the Membership Team, I was able to broaden my knowledge of how to serve a variety of people, which in PATA, are its members, as well as how to establish good and productive relationships. I have learned a lot about PATA as well as its role in the international travel and tourism industry. And even through online meetings and activities, I was able to meet new individuals and discuss ideas with them. This experience has helped me grow as a person and develop a more forward-thinking attitude, both of which will be beneficial when I begin working in the professional world soon. Most importantly, I am grateful to be a part of PATA's friendly and welcoming team of professionals.

Steve Yoon - Membership Intern

Greetings from Korea(ROK)! I am an intern in the membership department. I major in Tourism & Event Management, and this is my third year in the university. Although I have some working experiences in Korea, I was always thirsty for an experience in the global theatre; especially in the Asia-Pacific region which has some of the best destinations in the world. When I heard PATA was recruiting for new interns, I knew what I was going to do next. Now, I am proud that I made the right choice of the year.

I was half nervous and half excited about working for an international organization remotely at the start of my internship, but PATA’s staff were so welcoming and caring that blending into the team was never an issue. The work here requires precision and accuracy, but it helps you to level-up your working skills in many aspects. It is just a pity not being able to work in the office in Thailand alongside all the staff and interns, but it is still an invaluable experience to work with PATA.

Suthida Chang - SSR(Sustainability & Social Responsibility) Intern

Hi! I am Suthida Chang from Bangkok, Thailand. I am a Third Culture Individual who grew up across Bangkok, Beijing and Singapore. I graduated last December with an MPA in Innovation, Public Policy and Public Value from University College London. I hold an MA in International Relations and International Business from the University of Nottingham, and have a BA in Intercultural Studies (Ethics, Philosophy, Economics concentration) with a minor in Modern World History.

I am an avid traveller interested in local heritage, culture and gastronomy. And naturally, my strongest advocacies are Cultural Intelligence, education and the SDGs for development. Being a ‘Third Sector Person’, I have worked across intergovernmental agencies like the ASEAN Foundation and the ASEAN University Network, universities and NGOs. Coming across PATA by chance, applying as a SSR Intern is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. It’s an amazing journey where I’m able to put my knowledge, passions and previous experiences into practice. I’ve worked on the Tourism Destination Resilience and UNESCO projects, and I’m excited to learn more about sustainability and community development from a tourism perspective!
