Dr Mario Hardy, Chief Executive Officer
Dr Mario Hardy was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) on November 1, 2014.
PATA is a not-for profit membership association that acts as a catalyst for the responsible development of travel and tourism within the Asia Pacific region. The Association, which celebrated its 65th anniversary in 2016, provides travel industry leadership and counsel to over 95 government, state and city tourism bodies and many hundreds of travel industry companies across Asia Pacific and beyond. He is past Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the PATA Foundation, a non-profit organisation with a focus on the protection of the environment, the conservation of culture and heritage, and support for education.
Mario is also the founder of Venture Capital firm MAP2 | Ventures. An investment fund with a wide portfolio of technology centric businesses in the field of FinTech, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Internet of Things and Online Travel Tech. In addition to seed capital, the firm provide’s valuable management advice, mentorship and access to a vast network built over a lifetime experience in corporate development.
Mario previously worked a total of 26 years in specialised aviation businesses with a focus on data analytics and technology and occupied several leadership roles in Montreal, Vancouver, London, Beijing and Singapore.
In 2016, Mario received an honorary Doctorate of Letters from Capilano University for his philanthropic work in Cambodia where he helped develop a school for underprivileged children and for his support in the development of a Community Based Tourism (CBT) project in Vietnam.
He is a true global citizen who lived on 3 continents, 7 countries and has over 12 years experience working in Asia. A seasoned traveler with a goal of visiting over 100 countries engaging with local communities. Passionate about travel, innovation, design and technology; you will often find him reading, FastCompany, TechCrunch, Mashable, National Geographic, watching TED Talks, or searching for the latest innovations on Kickstarter or Indiegogo.
Pairoj joined PATA in August 2012 after a great deal of experience in financial management in large organisations in Thailand.
Mr Kiatthunsamai is responsible for the key management on organization restructure and turnaround performance for PATA, and has played an integral part in the success of the PATA financial position stabilizing.
For the last five years Pairoj has also worked for Thailand based insurance companies including Generali Insurance and New Hampshire Insurance Company. During his time with Generali Insurance Mr Kiatthunsamai was the leader of a special taskforce on Major Flood claim in Thailand and Coordination with all related parties.
Prior to this, Pairoj worked with KPMG as an Assistance Auditor Manager for the Phoomchai Audit.
Dale Lawrence is a UK citizen with a wealth of integrated marketing communications and general management experience across a broad range of consumer, corporate, B2B, industrial and trade/technical business sectors.
His experience in travel, tourism and aviation dates back some 35 years and his previous roles include Head of Corporate Communications (northern, central & eastern Europe) for Lufthansa German Airlines.
In 1994 he relocated to Phnom Penh to serve as Media Advisor to HRH Prince Norodom Ranariddh, First Prime Minister of Cambodia, to direct an international marketing communications programme on behalf of the Council for the Development of Cambodia that was designed specifically to promote inward investment.
In September 1995 he moved to Chinese Taipei where he was the International PR Director for a global marketing communications campaign promoting ‘Made in Taiwan’ on behalf of Taiwan’s Trade Development Organisation CETRA. He has been based permanently in Bangkok since 2006 and his former roles include writer & presenter of the popular weekly TV travel magazine programme ‘The Travel Show’. The show aired throughout Southeast Asia on the Thai-ASEAN News Network.
He is the author of two publications, including the best-selling ‘Stone Me! The Ultimate Rolling Stones Quiz Book’.
Chris Flynn, Regional Director-Pacific for the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA), is responsible for industry development and liaison within the public and private tourism sectors.
He has 30 years experience in international and domestic tourism having held senior appointments within the airline, deluxe hotel, and high profile entertainment industries.
After studying tourism in the United Kingdom, Chris worked with both British Airways and Qantas Airways before moving to Australia to take up a position with Ansett Australia.
His vast international experience operating in regions such as UK, Europe, United States, Asia and the Pacific, has given him an intimate knowledge of the industry and the requirements needed to deliver a balanced approach when dealing with a variety of country destinations and associated products.
Born in Beijing in 1961, Bo Wu joined the China National Tourism Administration in 1985 to start his career as press officer after graduation from Beijing Second Foreign Language Institute with a BA Degree in English Literature. In 16 years of service in this Chinese top governmental administrative agency in tourism industry, he moved to the post of deputy director of marketing with responsibility of North America & Europe.
As an X-officer of Chinese government with knowledge of know-how of Chinese governmental operation plus China’s tourism development, Bo’s working experience covers international business as well due to his education in New York New School with a Master Degree and 7 years of working in New York City as the Deputy Chief Rep. of China’s tourism in U.S.A. He got on board with Hawaii DBEDT (State of Hawaii Department of Business Economic Development & tourism) by the end of 2001 and had worked a great number of operations, engagements, programs, projects and investments between U.S. and China in the field of tourism, trade, and commerce.
Daniela Wagner joined the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) as the PATA European Coordinator on February 22, 2013.
Daniela is also the co-founder and CEO of eWaterways Cruises, a global online aggregator of small ship cruises with over 1200 contracted ships selling from over 300 suppliers through multiple distribution channels.
Daniela has previously held positions with OctopusTravel and Cendant/Travelport B2C Business Group, leading online travel portal for hotels (under GTA (Gullivers Travel Associates).
Other leading positions include Vice President, Corporate Affairs for the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), and the Executive Director for the European Tour Operators Association (ETOA).
Daniela is an enthusiastic, energetic and personable manager with a demonstrable track record of outstanding achievement in the travel industry. She has a strong belief in people and in building relationships between companies and individuals at all levels. She is commercially creative and has applied her entrepreneurial and interpersonal skills very effectively in large corporate and start-up environments. Fluent in both German and French, she has an extensive network of top-level industry contacts around the globe. Daniela has a sound understanding of the requirements of trade association’s through her 15 year career in running various associations around the world.
Halona Padiachy, Director of International Partnerships, Membership and Chapter Relations, joined PATA in February 2015 and is responsible for liaising with the public and private tourism sectors and industry development within Asia.
Representing PATA within the region, she is focused on strengthening PATA’s relationships to address issues, opportunities and challenges to support the growth of travel to, from and within Asia Pacific.
Halona supports PATA’s business development through strategic international partnerships in alignment with mutual goals, and seeks out new opportunities to further enhance the value of the PATA network. She previously held the position of Head of Communications at PATA in 2013, overseeing the Association’s external communications, PR and marketing efforts and fostering relationships with industry media.
She also acts as the liaison to PATA’s 41 global Chapters, working closely to provide a link between PATA HQ and local Chapters to better understand regional challenges and opportunities for growth.
A results-driven, communications strategist, Halona has a strong background in the public sector, working with the Canadian Federal Government as a public servant as well as a Consultant. Through this experience she gained first-hand experience witnessing the impact of public/private collaboration in fostering the social and economic development of communities. She supported several national projects in both a communications and programmes capacity. Of special importance to her is her work under the Indian Residential Schools Resolution Health Support Program, where she worked closely with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRC) to coordinate and execute truth-sharing events across Canada’s Northern Region to support Canada’s Indigenous communities in healing and reconciliation.
Born and raised in South Africa, before immigrating to Canada, Halona has developed a strong foundation of cross-cultural understanding. This, along with her strong belief in people, has helped her in both her personal and professional life to build relationships not just between companies, but with individuals at all levels.
Halona holds a strong belief that all individuals, when giving the opportunity, resources and tools are capable of achieving their highest potential. As a certified Master Neurolinguistic Programming Practitioner and Life Coach, she supports individuals in achieving outstanding results to live their best lives.
