Nepal Tourism Update

Currently Disrupted
The Langtang, Rasuwa and Bhote Koshi corridor is closed. Travel there is not possible. The Galchhi–Syabrubesi road is closed.
Search and rescue is active, and authorities have warned of further flooding from a barrier lake upstream.
The Everest and Annapurna regions are outside the affected river system and were not in the flood path. PATA Nepal Chapter will confirm operating conditions in the affected region in subsequent updates as the situation stabilises.

Bahrain:

Japan:

Jordan:
Lufthansa resumes daily flights from Frankfurt to Amman, Jordan on October 25. Lufthansa (Sep 7)
Singapore:
Singapore Airlines has announced a suspended extension of its Singapore-Dubai to October 24. Reuters (Aug 31)
The UAE:
Emirates has issued an unlimited date change policy. The practice remains valid across all fares. Additionally, the airlines has reduced refund fees on its flights to Dubai. Conde Nast Traveller (Aug 12)
Etihad extends flight select services commencement after its brief pause last August 21. The airlines will accommodate booking changes up until March 31, 2027 with no additional fee.
Additionally, Flydubai cancels flights to several destinations including Doha, Erbil, Hargeisa, Mahe, Entebbe and Asmara. Passengers are advised to keep checking their flight status as regional destinations such as Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Bahrain continue to face sudden schedule changes. Conde Nast (Aug 24)
Air Arabia cancels multiple flights and services to Kuwait and Bahrain. Travellers are advised to check individual booking and flight status before going to the airport.
Additionally, Finnair extends its Dubai flight suspension significantly, shifting the return date from October 24 to March 27, 2027. Gulf News (Aug 31)

Canada

The Canadian Immigration Authorities announces a tightening policy on visa verification for five destinations: Dominica, Antigua, Barbuda, Grenada, Saint Lucia, and Saint Kitts and Nevis.
Applicants from the aforementioned destinations are reminded to avoid missing information, inconcistsencies and errors within documents and submissions to avoid processing delays.

From the initial validity of September 13, the Remote Area Border Crossing (RABC) permits will now remain valid until November 30, 2026
The program allows eligible individuals to bypass port of entry when crossing into Canada through selected border areas which have been announced to close on December 1. Persons etering Canada after aforementioned date will be required to report their entry to the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).

Mexico

Starting in August, Mexico will launch an electronic visa platform for foreign tourists eliminating the need for in-person visits to consular offices. The e-visa costing 32 USD is not valid for travel by land or sea. It only applies to foreigners entering via air for tourism, cultural or family purposes and require a visa to enter mexico. It does not allow any work activities and is valid for a maximum of 180 days. Infants under two years old are exempt from the payment.

Mexico's Congress approved no-resident duty, doubling cruise passenger fee for foreigners from August 1 onwards.
The duty is expected to apply a series of incremental increases. By July 2026, the fee is estimated to rise to $15 dollars.

U.S. Department of State opens the nonimmigrant visa (NIV) expedited appointment program, which will run through December 31. Eligible applicants for B visas may pay a $750 fee on top of the $185 MRV fee.

Travellers to Guam or the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) under the Guam-CNMI Visa Waiver Program (G–CNMI VWP) need to submit Form I–736 electronically in advance of travel and receive an electronic travel authorization prior to embarking on a carrier for travel to Guam or the CNMI starting from September 30, 2024 - November 28, 2024.

Travelers need a valid passport from an eligible country and must complete the online ETA application once they book their travel or at least seven days before they depart for Guam or the CNMI.
A new eTA must be obtained if the traveler is issued a new passport, changes their name, gender, or country of citizenship, or if their previous responses to the eligibility questions on Form I-736 change.
The G-CNMI VWP allows eligible citizens from 12 countries to travel to Guam and/or the CNMI without the need for a physical visa. Travelers must present a round-trip ticket and aconfirmed departure date not exceeding 45 days from the date of admission to be considered eligible. But if passports that expire in six months or less will not receive an approved eTA.

Tonga

Travellers are required to hold passports with a validity of a minimum of 6 months and must proceed immediately to a Customs Officer at Passport Control booths provided for the necessary immigration clearances when entering Tonga. In addition, citizens of all other countries need visas to enter Tonga (prior to arrival) and ensure that their visas remain valid for any period for which they are in the Kingdom.
Some countries are offered a 30-day tourist visa on arrival in Tonga (listed in announcement). Visiting Tonga for a period of not less than 30 days is required to obtain an entry permit issued by the Immigration Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs prior to arriving in Tonga.
