This webinar explores key climate trends affecting destinations: changing hazards such as heat, wildfire, drought and flooding; shifting suitability for beach, urban, mountain and nature tourism; and changes in seasonality.
Bijan Khazai will introduce Destination Risk Scan, showing how tourism-specific climate data can inform practical decisions on product diversification, seasonal planning, visitor safety and adaptation investment. Drawing on experience working with destinations in California, Canada, Portugal and the Netherlands, alongside perspectives from Small Island Developing States (SIDS), he will examine the barriers to turning evidence into action, including limited capacity, fragmented responsibilities and financing constraints. Participants will explore opportunities to connect climate insights with local knowledge, engage stakeholders and identify priorities for more resilient destinations.
