PATA Nepal Chapter, NMB Bank, and VISA Join Hands to Promote Digital Payment Solutions in the Tourism Sector
Kathmandu, 1 December 2025 - The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Nepal Chapter, NMB Bank Ltd., and VISA have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to collaborate on promoting digital payment solutions in Nepal’s tourism and hospitality industry. The signing ceremony took place today at NMB Bank’s Head Office, Babarmahal, Kathmandu.
The agreement aims to encourage the adoption of NMB Bank’s Soft POS technology, an innovative contactless payment solution designed to enhance convenience, security, and efficiency in financial transactions for tourism businesses and travelers.
The MOU was signed in the presence of Mr. Khem Lakai, Chairman of PATA Nepal Chapter, Mr. Gobind Ghimire, CEO of NMB Bank Ltd., and Mr. Sabbir Ahmed, Country Manager of VISA for Bangladesh, Nepal, and Bhutan, along with official representatives from VISA, PATA Nepal Chapter, and NMB Bank.
Speaking on the occasion, the leaders from the three organizations highlighted that this partnership marks a milestone toward advancing Nepal’s digital transformation in the travel and tourism sector. The collaboration is expected to facilitate wider acceptance of digital payments among tourism enterprises, especially small and medium-sized businesses, contributing to financial inclusion and service efficiency.
The initiative aligns with the collective vision of PATA Nepal Chapter, NMB Bank, and VISA to support sustainable tourism growth, technological innovation, and smart business practices across Nepal’s tourism value chain.
