PolyU School of Hotel and Tourism Management Ranked World No. 1 for A Historic Tenth Consecutive Year

 

The School of Hotel and Tourism Management (SHTM) of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) has achieved a historic milestone by securing the No. 1 position in the “Hospitality and Tourism Management” category of the 2026 ShanghaiRanking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects for ten consecutive years.

This marks the tenth consecutive year that the SHTM has been recognised as No. 1 globally by ShanghaiRanking, making it the first hospitality and tourism school to hold the top position continuously since the “Hospitality and Tourism Management” subject was introduced in 2017. The remarkable achievement underscores the School’s visionary leadership, dedicated faculty and enduring global impact on hospitality and tourism education and research.

ShanghaiRanking’s Academic Ranking of World Universities is widely regarded as one of the world’s three most influential and respected university ranking systems, alongside the QS World University Rankings and the Times Higher Education World University Rankings.

This latest achievement adds to the SHTM’s impressive track record of international recognition and excellence. The School was also ranked No. 1 in the world in the 2024/25 Field Based Ranking published by the University Ranking by Academic Performance Research Laboratory, claiming first place globally in the “Commerce, Management, Tourism and Services” category for eight years in a row. Among comprehensive universities worldwide, the SHTM was ranked No. 2 globally in the “Hospitality and Leisure Management” subject area in the 2026 QS World University Rankings, reinforcing its pioneering position in advancing hospitality and tourism education and an industry that serves as a key driver of socio-economic growth worldwide.
