The Center for Tourism Research at Wakayama University is organizing the symposium series to promote the importance of destination management and tourism education and to exchange knowledge and experiences on this theme from various perspectives over the past year.

This year, under the overarching theme, “Tourism Education to Enhance Sensibility and Empathy and Destination Management — Linking to Regenerative Tourism — , ” the symposium will bring together a diverse group of researchers and practitioners working in Japan to explore how tourism education can cultivate sensibility, empathy, and values, and how these capacities can inform destination management from the perspective of regenerative tourism, which seeks the renewal of people, nature, and communities beyond sustainability.

On the second day, 31 October, the symposium will also be streamed online from the venue at Wakayama University, with simultaneous Japanese–English interpretation.
