PATA India Chandigarh University Student Chapter Has Organized an Expert Talk on POSH (Prevention of Sexual Harassment at the Workplace)

 
 

Punjab, India, 10 April 2025 -

Overview: An expert talk on the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) at the workplace was organized by PATA on 10th April. The session aimed to create awareness among students about their rights and responsibilities under the POSH Act, 2013, and to foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive work environment.

Speaker: 

The session was led by Dr. Renu, a legal advisor with extensive experience in conducting training sessions on gender sensitization and workplace safety. 

Highlights of the Session: 

  • Introduction to the POSH Act, 2013 and its objectives.  

  • Explanation of key terms such as "sexual harassment," "aggrieved woman," "workplace," and "Internal Complaints Committee (ICC)."   

  • Responsibilities of employers and employees in ensuring a safe workplace.    

  • Step-by-step process of filing and addressing complaints under the POSH Act.  

  • Real-life case studies and their legal outcomes.    

  • Q&A session to address participants’ queries and clarify doubts. 

Participation: 

 The event saw active participation from 44 individuals including faculty members, and students The interactive nature of the session encouraged open dialogue and helped participants gain practical insights into handling sensitive issues at the workplace. The session was well-received by attendees, who appreciated the clarity of information and the engaging delivery style of the speaker. Many participants expressed that the talk increased their confidence in understanding and implementing POSH guidelines within their respective environments. 

Conclusion: 

The expert talks successfully fulfilled its objective of sensitizing attendees about the importance of preventing sexual harassment at the workplace. It served as a significant step toward building a more informed and respectful workplace culture. 

SUCCESS MATRICS 

The event saw enthusiastic participation from across various departments, including Department Tourism, Airlines, Hotel Management, and Culinary Arts. Their presence added to the diversity and richness of the discussions and activities, highlighting the multidisciplinary nature of the tourism industry. It was a fun and memorable event which enhanced everybody’s creativity, along with deepening their understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals. The students who took part in these initiatives committed to integrating sustainable habits into their everyday routines. Our PATA Student Chapter continues to enable and encourage students to take the lead in environmental stewardship, guaranteeing a healthier and cleaner Earth for coming generations.
