Suva, Fiji, May 26, 2025 – As the curtains close on the South Pacific Tourism Exchange (SPTE) 2025, Fiji and the Pacific celebrate a milestone in regional collaboration, connectivity, and industry growth. Over the past two days, tourism professionals, business leaders, and visionaries from across the Pacific and beyond gathered in Fiji, marking history as the first Pacific Island Country to host this prestigious event twice.

With over 2,500 one-on-one meetings, SPTE 2025 has woven a stronger network of partnerships, strategic insights, and future collaborations—connections that will drive the continued growth of sustainable tourism across the Pacific. Fiji’s tourism strength was on full display, as 25 local businesses—from renowned industry leaders to bold newcomers—showcased the nation’s commitment to excellence.

With four Pacific airlines—Fiji Airways, Solomon Airlines, Nauru Airlines, and Air Niugini—coming together, the event reinforced the Pacific’s commitment to connectivity, not only across airways but through shared aspirations and economic progress. Attendees from Papua New Guinea to Tuvalu came together, reinforcing the idea that the Pacific is not just a region, but a family. Across languages, industries, and time zones, the collective vision was clear: to unite, inspire, and innovate for a stronger Pacific future.

A 10-member delegation was part of the China–Pacific Island Countries Tourism Exchange Session, co-hosted by the Bureau of International Exchange and Cooperation, Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China, and SPTO Secretariat, and co-organized by the China Cultural Centre in Fiji and China International Travel Service Limited, Head Office.

Fijis Deputy Prime Minister Vilimae Gavoka emphasized the significance of this moment: “This event is more than a gathering—it is a reaffirmation of our region’s unity. Fiji’s selection as host underscores our commitment to fostering cooperation, shared prosperity, and a thriving tourism landscape that benefits all Pacific peoples.”

SPTE 2025 positioned Fiji at the center of Pacific tourism, affirming the Fijian Government’s dedication to strengthening the bonds between island nations. It was an electrifying hub of opportunity, bringing together over 200 organisations and more than 300 participants from across the globe, including key markets such as Europe, North America, China, and the Indian subcontinent.

SPTE 2025 highlighted the unique tourism offerings across the region, from world-class accommodations and exhilarating dive experiences to locally curated cultural journeys. As Mr Gavoka aptly put it: “The Pacific doesn’t compete on volume. We lead with value, heart, and authenticity.”

SPTE 2025 was made possible through the unwavering support of sponsors, partners, and national tourism offices who believed in the Pacific’s potential. SPTO Chairlady Adela Issachar-Aru, reflected on the event’s success: “This is more than a marketplace—it’s a movement. A movement toward resilience, sustainability, and empowerment of Pacific communities.”

SPTO CEO Christopher Cocker echoed these sentiments, extending his deepest gratitude to all contributors: “Vinaka vakalevu—thank you—to our sponsors and partners, whose support ensured SPTE 2025 was an undeniable success. The discussions, connections, and collaborations forged here will shape the future of Pacific tourism, driving us toward a more sustainable and prosperous industry.”

As we wave goodbye to SPTE 2025, the impact of this gathering will continue to reverberate across the region. The Pacific stands stronger, more connected, and more determined than ever to pave the way for a thriving, inclusive tourism sector that benefits all its people.
