WHY JOIN PAS 2018?

The PATA Annual Summit brings together international thought leaders, industry shapers and senior decision-makers who are professionally engaged with the Asia Pacific region. The Summit embraces a global forum for enhancing the sustainable growth, value and quality of tourism. PAS 2018 is kindly hosted by the Korea Tourism Organization and Gangwon Province.

CONFERENCE OVERVIEW

Travel and tourism allow people from various backgrounds to better understand each other as humans, regardless of our race, religion or nationality.  However, in times of increasing change and complexity, it can be easy to overlook the impact the travel and tourism industry has on countries, communities and the environment. From its close links to trade and community development to its impact on cross-cultural understanding and poverty alleviation, it is the connections between organisations in both the public and private sectors and between people from various backgrounds that will drive the sustainable and responsible development of the industry.

PATA understands that vitality of the industry can only be maintained through the concerted efforts of all stakeholders, working in harmony and unison to build bridges and not walls. The PATA Annual Summit 2018 conference will look at the various connections that are helping to shape the industry as we move towards a more exponential future, bringing together a diverse lineup on international thought leaders, industry shapers, and senior decision-makers who are professionally engaged with the Asia Pacific region.

Experience the diverse landscapes of Gangneung, Korea’s best all-year-round destination. A popular destination among locals, Gangneung combines the white sandy beaches that stretch across the East Coast with the misty peaks of the Taebaek Mountains, also referred to as the spine of the Korean Peninsula. It is expected to have perfect weather with an average temperature of 20 degrees Celsius during the period of PAS 2018.

Serving as the location setting for popular Korean drama, Gangneung is gaining traction as a destination for fans of the Korean Wave, or ‘Hallyu’. The city boasts a unique cultural heritage – the Gangneung Danoje Festival serves to preserve the folk culture of the Joseon Dynasty, and has been UNESCO-designated as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. Gangneung will also be co-hosting the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018, along with the cities of PyeongChang and Jeongseon.

Venue: Lakai SANDPINE

Situated on Gyeongpo beach along, Lakai SANDPINE offers a breathtaking ocean scenery along with magnificent views of the Deagwallyrong Mountain and Gyeongpo Lake, with the name ‘Lakai’ meaning ‘shining ocean’ in the native Hawaiian language. The resort is equipped with various facilities including banquet halls, pools, and restaurants. Gyeongpo Beach is a well-known tourist attraction within Korea- a flawless combination of nature and cultural relics with many nearby attractions.

Gangneung is approximately 2.5-hours away from Seoul by car. Airport transfers are available between Seoul Incheon International Airport and PAS 2018 official hotels for all registered delegates arriving on May 16-18 and departing on May 20-21.
