  • As one of the most popular destinations in Sarawak, Miri forms a gateway to the famous Gunung Mulu National Park and Niah National Park. Miri used to be a bit of a cowboy village in the past, where people mainly came in search of oil. It is said that Malaysia's petroleum industry once started in Miri. Years later however, Miri grew out to be a modern city and have attracted thousands of tourists each year.

Tourism Malaysia

  • Bordered by Thailand in the north and Singapore in the south, Malaysia also stretches across the northern tier of Borneo to form the states of Sabah and Sarawak.

With 4,800km of coastline, Malaysia boasts some of the most beautiful islands and beaches. Surrounded by the Straits of Malacca, the Andaman Sea, the South China Sea, the Sulu Sea and the Celebes Sea, the country has a number of natural treasures that lay nestled in tranquil bays and coves.

Beneath the aquamarine waters is a fascinating world of corals and marine life waiting to be discovered. Such beautiful islands and beaches in Malaysia include Langkawi, Penang, Pangkor, Port Dickson, Tioman, Cherating, Redang, and Sipadan.

  • Eating out in Malaysia is a real gastronomic adventure. There is such a great variety of choices, from spicy Malay food to a seemingly endless variety of Chinese food, exotic Indian cuisine, as well as Nyonya Peranakan fusion food. Popular Malaysian dishes include satay, nasi lemak, rendang, roti canai, murtabak, teh tarik, laksa, chicken rice, and fried noodles.

Western cuisine is also available, with international fast-food chains operating in many towns, with thousands of roadside stalls and food bazaars.

  • Penang is a vibrant state with its capital, George Town, having the rare distinction of being a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a melting pot of cultures with strong Eastern and Western influences.

Penang is also famous for its array of street food. Whether it is assam laksa, nasi kandar, char kuey teow, cendol or pasembor, why not try eating like a local? In 2017, CNN Travel listed Penang as one of the world’s top eating destinations. Street food or hawker food is the city’s big draw. Penang hawker food reflects the multi-cultural makeup of the town, which has a mixture of Chinese, Malay and Indian descents.

  • Home to the Deer Cave and Clearwater Cave, the Mulu National Park also boasts one of the longest chains of caves in the world. The Sarawak Chamber is the largest natural underground chamber that can fit a total of 40 Boeing 747 aeroplanes! Besides that, its karst formations in mountainous equatorial rainforest setting are the most studied area of tropical karst in the world.

The National Park’s limestone pinnacles are also a sight to behold. Alternatively, tourists can enjoy the bat observatory and the 480m rainforest canopy skywalk - the world's longest tree-based walkway.

SURUGA Marketing & Tourism Bureau

  • There is a reason that the Suruga Region is known as the “Tea Country”, where around 40% of all Japan tea is grown and harvested, and approximately 70% of all green tea throughout Japan is sent to our region for processing and blending. With all the tea the Suruga Region has to offer also comes an extensive amount of geodiversity, from deep into the mountains up until the coastline of Suruga Bay. Truly, the green tea industry is the backbone for the Suruga Region.

  • The deepest waters throughout all of Japan can be found here in the 2,500-meter depths of Suruga Bay. This area, which includes the Southern Alps, Izu Peninsula, and of course Mt. Fuji, was considered so beautiful to the late Shogun that he wanted to be buried at Nihondaira Plateau overlooking the bay.

  • The Shogun, Tokugawa Ieyasu, is a vital part of the identity of the Suruga Region and primary influence on the culture and arts that you see in the modern day.

At the climax of the Warring States period in Japan over 400 years ago, the Shogun finally unified the country after nearly 150 years of war, bringing a nearly two-century period of unhindered peace and prosperity to the entire country. The Shogun, throughout the twilight of his life, centered his attention on establishing a craftsmen-centered society through which the Suruga Region would be able to flourish. He invited many artisans from across the country to gather in the region, such as builders, ceramists, and fabric dyers. Many of those arts have survived over the generations, and you’ll be able to interact with those professionals and see how our culture and arts has been shaped by the peace-bringing Shogun.

World Express Group

  • A cruise on the Kinabatangan River offers a glimpse of the stunning and often unique wildlife and rainforests of Borneo.

  • The remote nature of the park and lack of inhabitancy creates a place of unparalleled biodiversity and some of Sabah region’s most elusive zoological and botanical gems can be seen.
