Welcome to Nur-Sultan (ASTANA)

Representing its first foray into Central Asia, PTM 2019 is set in the forward-looking, modern city of Nur-Sultan (Astana) – ‘the term for ‘the capital city’ in Kazakh and host to Expo 2017. Situated on the northern steppes of Kazakhstan, Astana boasts a spectacular skyline of mind-blowing, avant-garde landmark buildings, many of them by leading international architects. PTM 2019 is generously  hosted by the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Kazakh Tourism National Company JSC.

Bayterek Monument
Astana’s most prominent landscape, this 97m-high monument and observation tower offers an art gallery, a small aquarium and a restaurant. The design embodies a Kazakh legend in which the mythical bird Samruk lays a golden egg containing the secrets of human desires and happiness in a tall poplar tree, beyond human reach.

Khan Shatyr Shopping Mall
Designed by renowned British architect Lord Norman Foster, Khan Shatyr holds the world record as the biggest building in the world having the tent form. Standing at nearly 152 meters tall, it boasts a beach resort situated within the building featuring year-round tropical climate and plants, including sand brought from the Maldives.

Astana Opera
The State Opera and Ballet Theatre “Astana Opera” stands as the third biggest opera in the world and is constructed according to the best classical architectural traditions entwined with Kazakh national motifs. The acoustics of the theatre is considered one of the best in the world and was designed by the Italian Biobyte is one of Italy’s leading companies in room and building acoustics.

A country the size of Western Europe, Kazakhstan is defined by its contrasting geographical diversity, stretching from the mountainous regions of the East to the lowlands in the West, and from the Siberian terrain of the North through the dry steppes of the center, to the fertile south. A popular destination among many is the Burabay reserve, a remarkable oasis situated right in the middle of the Kazakh steppes, combining snow covered mountains and clean lakes.

Astana International Airport is about 15 km south of central Astana, serving Budapest, Paris, Kiev, Moscow, Beijing, Delhi, Seoul, Bangkok, Istanbul, Abu Dhabi, London, Warsaw and Frankfurt as well as several domestic destinations. Air Astana, the flag carrier of Kazakhstan, flies to both domestic and international locations from Astana International Airport.
