Indian Rail Journey_GIE
Railways were introduced in India by the British rulers to transport raw cotton from the hinterland to ports where it could be shipped to England. The first passenger train was launched in 1853 conveying 400 people from central Mumbai to the suburb of Thane, a mere distance of 34 kms. This led to the foundation of the Great Indian Peninsular Railway that India inherited after independence in 1947.
Unlike with other symbols of colonial power, Indians have always had a nostalgic relationship with British-run railways. That is why many heritage trains on historic railway routes are still in use. Old steam engines are preserved in Rail Museums in Delhi, Kolkata and Mysoremakes for a truly GIE Go India experience.
Ayurveda_Brochure_GIE
Ayurveda (a combination of the words ayur or life and veda or knowledge),one of the oldest life sciences and comprehensive system of healthcare in the world, was formulated by sages and healers over thousands of years. Around 1000 BC, this repository of knowledge was compiled into texts and, though its basic theories have remained largely unchanged, ayurvedic treatment and medicine are being constantly expanded by its practitioners.
Ayurveda is based on treating not just the disease but the individual as a whole. It believes that every person has a constitution based on a combination of elements such as air, fire, water and ether that combine to form three basic humours or doshas. It is the dominant dosha that defines an individual’s body type. Ayurvedic treatments can be undertaken for a specific medical condition or just as part of a wellness programme designed to rejuvenate both body and mind. The treatments range from internal and external cleansing of the body to massage and beauty treatments, followed by a personalized ayurvedic diet and the yoga routine aimed at restoring physical and mental equilibrium.
