Dr Erwin Balane
Tourism Attache, Philippine Department of Tourism - Korea Office
Dr. Erwin F. Balane has been serving as the Tourism Attaché at the Philippine Department of Tourism (PDOT) – Korea Office since his appointment in April 2025. Prior to this role, he was assigned as Tourism Attaché at the PDOT–Beijing Office from October 2019 to March 2025.
He has been with the Department for 30 years and has been appointed to various positions and designations. In 2004, he was appointed as the Chief of Regional Development Planning Division of the Office of Tourism Development Planning.
In 2013, he was designated as the Head of Route Development under the Office of Product and Market Development while at the same time he was the Chief of Information Technology Division.
As Head of Route Development, he has led the hosting of Routes Asia 2019 in Cebu City, the biggest and the largest aviation event in Asian region which was attended by more than 1,000 foreign and local delegates composed of airline executives, airport and aviation officials, and tourism authorities. He also led the hosting of North East Asia Low-Cost Carrier Summit 2019 in Cebu City which showcased the new Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) to foreign delegates that resulted to increase of inbound flights to Cebu from Dubai (UAE), Doha (Qatar), Singapore, Bangkok (Thailand), Seoul (Korea), Tokyo (Japan) among others.
Dr. Balane is a graduate of Doctor in Public Administration from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines in 2004. In addition to his Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the same university, he also completed his academics for Master of Science in Environmental Management from the Philippine Women’s University.
For more than 15 years, Dr. Balane was also a part-time professor in various universities and colleges in Manila such as the Far Eastern University (FEU), College of the Holy Spirit (CHS), De La Salle College of St. Benilde (DLS-CSB), St. Scholastica College of Manila (SSCM), and the Philippine Women’s University (PWU). As an academician, he has handled tourism subjects such as Tourism Planning and Development, Tourism Marketing, International Tourism, etc.
