Jason Wang

Chief Operating Officer, Global Tourism Economy Forum

Wang is currently the Chief Operating Officer of Global Tourism Economy Forum (GTEF) and Executive Director of Global Tourism Economy Research Centre (GTERC). Before joining the GTEF/GTERC team in 2015, Wang was working for the United Nation’s World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) from 2007 to early 2015.

In his early days in UNWTO, Wang set up the first UNWTO ST-EP (Sustainable Tourism, Elimination of Poverty) project in China. He was also the coordinator for tourism affairs in China and South Asia. His career highlights cover the organization of the Annual UNWTO/PATA Forum on Tourism Trends and Outlook, and the establishment of UNWTO Observatories on Sustainable Tourism Development. Wang was also in charge of resource mobilization for South/South collaboration, and coordinated several tourism researches and studies. Before joining UNWTO, Wang was the Protocol Officer of Guizhou Provincial Foreign Affairs Office, his major responsibilities were the organization of International Events, coordination of the official visits by state leaders, senior diplomats and foreign investors; He also provided countless interpretations services for state/Provincial leaders.

Throughout his career, Wang received various trainings from Oxford Leadership Academy, Belgian Federal Ministry of Civil Servants, Finance & Agriculture, Civil Service Collage Directorate in the UK, and the Governments’ Center for Management and Policy Studies in the Netherlands; He also received Administrative Management training in the USA, Modern Administrative Management training in Dusseldorf, Germany, Urban Management training in Australia/New Zealand, and Protocol Management Training in the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Wang graduated from the Department of Economics and International Development of the University of Bath, United Kingdom, and holds a Master Degree in International Development. He was awarded Chevening Scholarship by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office of the United Kingdom in 2004.
