Bengaluru Heritage & Cuisine Trail
Bengaluru, Karnataka, India, 30th July 2026 – The PATA India CHRIST University Student Chapter, in collaboration with the Department of Tourism Management, organized the Bengaluru Heritage & Cuisine Trail, an experiential learning initiative designed to help students explore the historical, cultural, and culinary evolution of Bengaluru. The trail provided participants with a deeper understanding of how heritage, urban development, and local food traditions contribute to the identity of a destination.
The programme enabled students to trace Bengaluru’s transformation across different historical periods, from the city’s origins under Kempe Gowda to its colonial influences and modern urban character. Through visits to significant heritage and cultural sites, participants gained valuable insights into destination interpretation, heritage conservation, and the role of historical assets in tourism development.
A key component of the trail was the exploration of Cubbon Park, one of Bengaluru’s most iconic public spaces. Students examined how colonial-era planning shaped the city’s administrative and cultural landscape, while also understanding the importance of urban green spaces in enhancing destination appeal and quality of life.
The visit to the Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum introduced participants to the legacy of Sir M. Visvesvaraya and the contributions of science, engineering, and innovation to Karnataka’s development. The experience highlighted the growing importance of educational and knowledge-based tourism attractions.
Students also explored Tipu Sultan’s Summer Palace, an important landmark reflecting Bengaluru’s royal and political history. The visit provided insights into Indo-Islamic architecture, heritage preservation, and the historical significance of Tipu Sultan’s contributions to the region.
Beyond heritage attractions, the trail incorporated Bengaluru’s rich culinary traditions, allowing students to appreciate food as an integral component of cultural identity and tourism experiences. Through exposure to traditional Karnataka cuisine and historic dining establishments, participants gained a broader understanding of culinary tourism and its role in preserving local heritage.
The Bengaluru Heritage & Cuisine Trail successfully combined classroom learning with field-based exploration, encouraging students to critically engage with heritage interpretation, cultural preservation, and destination development. The initiative reinforced the value of experiential learning in tourism education while fostering a deeper appreciation for Bengaluru’s unique historical and cultural landscape.
