Chonburi Beach Cleaning Initiative 2026
Bangkok, Thailand, 24th March 2026 - The PATA Thailand Bangkok University Student Chapter successfully organized its 4th Beach Cleaning Activity at Wat Mai Noen Phayom, Chonburi, Thailand, as part of its ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability, community engagement, and responsible tourism practices.
This initiative was aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 14: Life Below Water, which focuses on conserving and sustainably using oceans, seas, and marine resources. Through this activity, students and community members worked together to reduce marine pollution while raising awareness about the importance of protecting Thailand’s coastal ecosystems.
Activity Overview
Participants arrived at Wat Mai Noen Phayom at 10:00 AM, where the activity officially commenced. The beach cleaning operation was guided by Mr. Aom, the leader of the local fishing community in Chonburi, who shared valuable insights regarding environmental challenges affecting the coastal area and the impact of waste pollution on marine life and local livelihoods.
The initiative was conducted through collaboration between the Bangkok University International (BUI) community and the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources. Additional support was provided by UNIHAI Shipyard and Engineering and Mr. Artit from the Orange Party.
The activity also received support from KLN Reproduction Company, which contributed to the recycling and waste management process. The collected waste was prepared for proper recycling and environmental processing to minimize landfill impact and encourage sustainable waste management practices.
Beach Cleaning Results
The beach cleaning activity was completed within approximately 40 minutes. During this time, volunteers worked together to collect various forms of marine debris and waste materials scattered throughout the coastal area.
As a result of the collective effort, a total of 383 kilograms of waste was collected.
This achievement demonstrated the significant impact that community participation and volunteer action can create within a short period of time. The activity also highlighted the ongoing issue of marine pollution affecting coastal communities and marine ecosystems across Thailand.
Environmental and Educational Impact
Beach pollution remains one of the major environmental concerns globally and within Thailand, particularly in coastal provinces where tourism, fisheries, and local communities rely heavily on healthy marine ecosystems.
Waste such as plastics, abandoned fishing materials, and household debris can negatively affect marine biodiversity, water quality, and tourism sustainability.
Through this initiative, the PATA Thailand Bangkok University Student Chapter encouraged students to actively participate in environmental conservation while promoting responsible tourism practices. The project also strengthened cooperation between educational institutions, government organizations, private sector partners, and local communities.
Beyond its environmental contribution, the activity provided valuable experiential learning opportunities for students. Participants developed skills related to teamwork, leadership, sustainability awareness, and community engagement, all of which are increasingly important within the tourism and hospitality industry.
