Destination Detour – International Event
Bengaluru, Karnataka, India – 11 September, 2026: The PATA India CHRIST University Student Chapter, in association with the Department of Tourism Management, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), successfully organized Destination Detour, the international segment of ALTA VISTA 2026. The event brought together students from diverse institutions and countries, creating a platform for global collaboration, tourism innovation, and experiential learning. Participating institutions included PATA Malaysia Student Chapters, PATA Philippines Student Chapters, Dusit Thani College, Parul University, and several other national and international participants.
Destination Detour was designed as an interactive tourism challenge that encouraged participants to apply their tourism knowledge, creativity, and problem-solving skills to contemporary industry issues. Through a series of competitive rounds, teams explored themes such as destination branding, tourism recovery after climate-related disruptions, and sustainable destination transformation. The event challenged participants to think beyond conventional tourism solutions and develop innovative, practical, and future-oriented strategies.
The competition featured three unique challenges—Eco Rush Hour, Climate Catastrophe, and The Slow Turn—each addressing critical aspects of modern tourism management. Participants were required to demonstrate creativity, adaptability, teamwork, and strategic thinking while responding to dynamic tourism scenarios and real-world destination challenges. The event encouraged students to integrate sustainability, resilience, community engagement, and responsible tourism principles into their proposed solutions. 87 -L108
Beyond the competition, Destination Detour served as a platform for international networking and intercultural exchange. Students interacted with peers from different academic and cultural backgrounds, exchanged perspectives on global tourism issues, and strengthened professional connections within the PATA student network. The event reinforced the importance of collaboration, innovation, and sustainability in shaping the future of tourism.
The successful execution of Destination Detour highlighted the chapter’s commitment to providing globally relevant learning opportunities and fostering meaningful engagement among emerging tourism professionals. Through international participation and contemporary tourism challenges, the event contributed to developing critical thinking, leadership, and global industry awareness among participants.
