Hong Kong SAR, 11 October 2025 — The PATA HKMU Student Chapter successfully organised its inaugural ceremony, marking a significant milestone for the student chapter as the next generation of tourism professionals. The event, introduced its first executive board committee members, unveiled its ambitious plan for the academic year and featured key insights on the future of Hong Kong’s tourism landscape.

The ceremony officially commenced with a formal opening by Professor Matthew Lee, Associate Dean of Lee Shau Kee School of Business and Administration Hong Kong Metropolitan University, whose presence showcased the University's strong institutional commitment to the student chapter's success and its dedication to fostering industry-ready graduates.

Honorary Advisor's Introduction of PATA

The ceremony was graced by the presence of the chapter's Honorary Advisory and PATA Life Member, Mr. Andrew Jones, who formally introduced Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA), symbolizing a strong bond between the student body and the headquarters and a unified dedication to advancing PATA’s core mission of driving innovative and responsible growth in travel and tourism.

Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) Keynote on Tourism Outlook

A highlight of the ceremony was a keynote speech by the Executive Director, Mr. Anthony Lau, from the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB). The speaker provided an insightful overview of "Hong Kong’s Tourism Outlook," detailing the city's post-pandemic recovery strategies, the emerging travel trends, and the role of young professionals in shaping a dynamic and sustainable future for the industry. The address served as both an inspiration and a call for action for the executive committee members.

Introducing the First Board Committee Members

 
 

Building on the momentum from the recent Campaigning and Election Event, the newly elected Chairperson, Ms. Swarnika Thapa, presented the chapter’s vision and missions. The agenda showcased the chapter’s innovative approaches to fostering professional development, networking, and sustainable practices within the travel and tourism sector in Hong Kong.

The chapter proudly announced its first Executive Committee, a team of dedicated students elected to lead its mission. PATA HKMU Student Chapter is now officially active and invites interested students and industry partners to connect and collaborate.
