Sustainable Photo Contest: EcoLens 2025 Inspires Students to Promote Responsible Tourism Through Photography
Cavite, Philippines, October 19 2025 — The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) – LPU Cavite Student Chapter successfully conducted the Sustainable Photo Contest: EcoLens 2025 through its official Facebook page, providing students with a creative platform to showcase their appreciation for sustainable tourism and environmental conservation through photography. The activity was organized as part of the chapter’s continuing commitment to promoting responsible tourism practices among future tourism professionals. Through visual storytelling, participants were encouraged to capture meaningful images that reflect the importance of protecting natural and cultural resources while inspiring others to become more responsible travelers and advocates of sustainability.
Celebrating Sustainability Through Photography
EcoLens 2025 invited participants to submit original photographs that embody the principles of sustainable tourism. The contest encouraged students to look beyond the beauty of destinations and focus on how tourism and environmental stewardship can coexist to preserve communities and ecosystems for future generations.
The initiative also reinforced the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:
SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth, by promoting sustainable tourism as a driver of local economic development;
SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production, by encouraging responsible tourism practices and environmental awareness; and
SDG 13 – Climate Action, by inspiring participants to advocate for environmental protection through creative expression.
Conducted entirely online via the PATA–LPU Cavite Student Chapter Facebook Page, the competition enabled students to participate conveniently while maximizing digital engagement within the campus community.
Student Participation
The contest featured the participation of four (4) second-year Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management students, each presenting unique perspectives on sustainability through photography.
The winning photograph beautifully captured a serene coastal sunset, symbolizing the harmony between nature and tourism while reminding viewers of the collective responsibility to preserve destinations for future generations. The image reflected not only artistic creativity but also the core values of responsible tourism and environmental stewardship
Impact of the Event
Although participation was modest, EcoLens 2025 successfully achieved its advocacy by raising awareness of sustainable tourism and encouraging students to become more conscious of their role in protecting the environment.
The contest provided participants with opportunities to:
demonstrate creativity through meaningful visual storytelling;
deepen their understanding of sustainable tourism principles;
appreciate the importance of environmental conservation; and
recognize photography as a powerful tool for tourism advocacy and education.
By connecting creativity with sustainability, the activity helped cultivate environmental responsibility among aspiring tourism professionals while reinforcing the values promoted by PATA.
