Vanuatu Tourism Office

The Vanuatu Tourism Office (VTO), established under the VTO Act [CAP 142], is the national statutory authority mandated to market and position Vanuatu as a premier travel destination. The Office serves as the strategic bridge between Vanuatu Government, the tourism industry and international trade partners. The VTO ensures that Vanuatu is position and promoted as a high-value, low-impact destination that safeguards the cultural values of Vanuatu and preserve our natural environment while advancing sustainable tourism growth.

Guided by the 2030 Market Development Plan and the Vanuatu Sustainable Tourism Strategy, the VTO is committed to ensuring that tourism across all 83 islands of Vanuatu remains resilient, inclusive, and ethically managed—delivering lasting benefits for all ni-Vanuatu.

Why did you join PATA?

We joined PATA to connect Vanuatu’s tourism sector with a global network of destinations, airlines, wholesalers, and thought leaders. PATA provides us with access to market intelligence, advocacy platforms, and promotional opportunities that strengthen our ability to position Vanuatu in international markets. Membership also allows us to learn from best practices across the Asia-Pacific region and to build resilience through collaboration.

How do you see your organization aligning with PATA's new vision of creating a meaningful Pacific Asia tourism economy, and how can this vision be reflected in your day-to-day operations?

PATA’s new vision of creating a meaningful Pacific Asia tourism economy aligns closely with VTO’s mission to promote Vanuatu as a sustainable, inclusive, and resilient tourism destination.

  • Marketing Program: We reflect this vision by promoting authentic cultural and nature-based experiences that benefit local communities.

  • Digital Strategy & Communication: We use digital tools to share Vanuatu’s story, engage with partners, and ensure transparent communication.

  • Business Intelligence Program: We apply data and forecasting to guide decisions, ensuring tourism growth is both meaningful and sustainable.

On a Day-to-day basis, this vision is reflected in how we design campaigns, engage with the tourism industry and stakeholders, and how we measure impact and return on investment not only in visitor numbers but also in how communities in Vanuatu benefits and how we sustainably and responsibly manage our environment.

What recent initiatives, trends, or transformations in your organization or destination would you like to share with the PATA network? (Non-promotional)

We would like to collaborate with PATA on the following initiatives:

  • Market Readiness Pathway Toolkit (in design): A practical tool to help local operators prepare for international markets.

  • Cruise Tourism Development: Exploring readiness frameworks for cruise destinations, including port standards, local product packaging, and sustainability practices to ensure communities benefit from cruise arrivals.

  • Market Intelligence & Forecasting: Strengthening our Business Intelligence Program with visitor forecasts, aviation trends, and consumer insights.

  • Asia Market Activation: Building stronger working relationships with Chinese wholesalers and airlines such as South China Airline and Hainan Airlines to diversify source markets.

  • Digital Transformation: Expanding our digital communication channels to better connect with trade partners and consumers.

These initiatives reflect our commitment to meaningful tourism—balancing growth with sustainability, resilience, and community benefit.
