Excursion to UNESCO World Heritage Site Kalka–Shimla Railway

Punjab, India, 3rd February 2026­ - Blending education with adventure, PATA India Chandigarh University student chapter organized a memorable excursion to Barog Station lies on UNESCO World Heritage Site Kalka–Shimla Railway, offering students  firsthand exposure to the historic mountain railway experience.

 
 

OVERVIEW

The University Team, along with enthusiastic students, organized an educational and experiential visit to Barog Railway Station, nestled in the scenic hills of Himachal Pradesh which lies on UNESCO World Heritage Site Kalka–Shimla Railway. The visit aimed to provide students with practical exposure to railway tourism, heritage transportation, and the operational aspects of the iconic Kalka–Shimla Toy Train route.

 
 

Highlights of the day

·      Lively and engaging bus journey filled with music, dance, and video shoots.

·      Visit to Barog Railway Station after route adjustments.

·      Scenic exploration of the hill station surroundings and narrow mountain pathways.

·      Witnessed the arrival of multiple Toy Trains on the historic Kalka–Shimla Railway route.

·      Interaction with tourists and fellow passengers at the station.

·      Refreshments at the station cafeteria and team bonding moments.

 
 

 Participation:

The participation of the students was enthusiastic and highly engaging throughout the excursion. From the very beginning, they actively contributed to creating a lively atmosphere during the journey, showcasing teamwork and coordination. At Barog Railway Station, students observed the functioning of the Toy Train on the historic Kalka–Shimla Railway, interacted confidently with tourists and railway staff, and captured informative content for documentation. Their curiosity, discipline, and collaborative spirit reflected a strong sense of responsibility and genuine interest in experiential learning, making the visit both meaningful and impactful.

Conclusion:

The visit concluded on a highly positive and fulfilling note, leaving students with enriching experiences and lasting memories.
