Three Day Educational Tour to Pearl of the Orient: Penang
George Town, Penang, Malaysia, 7th October 2025 – PATA Malaysia Taylor's Student Chapter (PATA MTSC) organised Pearl of the Orient: Penang from 7th to 9th November 2025, bringing together 70 Taylor's University students on a three day educational tour blending heritage, culture, and hospitality experiences.
Pearl of the Orient: Penang was curated and organised by PATA MTSC to give students a transformative learning experience that combined education, culture, and heritage exploration. The tour was designed exclusively for Taylor's University students, offering Bachelor of International Tourism Management (Honours) students an opportunity to apply their academic knowledge in a real world destination management setting. Four lecturers joined the trip to support participants and enrich the learning experience.
Participants assembled at Taylor's University on the evening of 7th November 2025 and departed by coach for Penang. On the second day, the group began with a sunrise visit and picnic breakfast at Penang Hill before exploring Kek Lok Si Temple, Wat Chaya Mangkalaram, and George Town's renowned mural arts. The group checked in at Lexis Suites Penang, a five star property featuring private pool suites in every room, before venturing to Chulia Street in the evening to sample Penang's celebrated hawker street food. On the final day, the group made stops at Victoria Bridge in Enggor and Ipoh before returning to Taylor's University.
The trip brought together 70 students and four lecturers, offering hands on exposure to tour operations, logistics coordination, and destination management. Students gained practical insight into how heritage sites, cultural attractions, hospitality offerings, and culinary experiences shape a destination's appeal, while building teamwork and leadership skills throughout the journey. Pearl of the Orient: Penang reflects PATA MTSC's commitment to experiential learning in line with SDG 4 on Quality Education and SDG 11 on Sustainable Cities and Communities.
PATA MTSC extends its gratitude to all participants, lecturers, and partners for their involvement in making Pearl of the Orient: Penang a meaningful and memorable experience. The chapter looks forward to organising more initiatives that bring tourism education to life beyond the classroom.
