Cross University Trip to Pangkor Island
Subang Jaya, Malaysia, 13th June 2026 - PATA Malaysia Taylor's Student Chapter (PATA MTSC) organised its Pangkor Island Adventure from 13th to 15th June 2025, bringing together 119 students from Taylor's University, Sunway University, and Monash University for a hands on tourism learning experience and weekend getaway.
The Pangkor Island Adventure was designed to give students practical exposure to tour operations and destination management. Open to students across three universities, the trip offered Bachelor of International Tourism Management (Honours) students at Taylor's University an opportunity to apply their academic knowledge in a real world setting. Seven lecturers joined the trip as well, supporting participants throughout the experience.
Participants departed from Taylor's University in the early hours of 14th June 2025, travelling by coach to Marina Bay Jetty before taking a ferry to Pangkor Island. Upon arrival, the group was transferred to Coral Bay Resort Pangkor. The day's highlight was an island hopping tour across Pangkor Island's waters, giving participants an immersive look at the island's natural environment. The evening was left open for participants to explore freely. On the second day, the group departed Pangkor Island and made a stop in Teluk Intan for a heritage tour, giving students an additional opportunity to learn about Malaysia's cultural and historical landmarks before returning to Taylor's University.
The trip brought together 119 students and seven lecturers across three universities, making it one of PATA MTSC's largest cross university events. Students gained hands on exposure to tour planning and execution, from managing logistics and transportation to experiencing guided tours as both organisers and participants. The event also gave students from different universities the chance to connect and build relationships, strengthening the network of tourism students in Malaysia. The Pangkor Island Adventure reflects PATA MTSC's commitment to experiential learning in line with SDG 4 on Quality Education and SDG 17 on Partnerships for the Goals.
PATA MTSC extends its gratitude to all participants, lecturers, and partner universities for their involvement in making the Pangkor Island Adventure a memorable and meaningful experience. The chapter looks forward to organising more events that bring tourism education to life beyond the classroom.
